It’s with great pleasure and excitement that I announce the release of my newest workbook! It’s entitled, The Highly Sensitive Child’s Workbook: 50 Fun Exercises to Help Kids Feel Less Overwhelmed, Communicate Their Needs, and Thrive.
The link to the Amazon page is here. Or, if you want to know how you can possibly get your hands on a free copy, skip to the bottom!
As a play therapist and parent coach, I have worked with many children who fall under the umbrella of “highly sensitive.” These children are often the most empathetic, creative, and observant beings you’ll ever meet – and they also have a unique set of struggles. Their ability to feel things extra deeply means they’re also vulnerable to getting overwhelmed… and that can lead to big feelings and behaviors.
I have great compassion for the challenges highly sensitive children (and their wonderful families) experience, and I have seen how, with the right support, they can truly blossom. It’s why I created this workbook! Although the activities will provide opportunities to learn and practice new skills, they’re also designed to be empowering. Sensitivity isn’t a flaw – it’s a superpower that children can learn to harness.
(Additionally, all exercises were created to be fun and engaging for children, so they won’t feel lectured at or bored during the exercises!)
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
- Fun, non-threatening activities (including art, storytelling, and games) to help children understand themselves better and develop coping skills
- Suggested modifications for tailoring exercises to your child’s comfort level and strengths (e.g., if your kiddo hates writing, there are ideas for doing writing-based activities differently!)
- Bonus ideas at the end of each chapter to get the whole family discussing and practicing the skills together
By the way, I love that bonus section of the book, because if you’re a highly sensitive adult, you might just find those exercises helping YOU, too! ; )
Topics include:
- Understanding and naming feelings
- Creating calm (by anticipating triggers, using mindfulness, etc)
- Challenging perfectionism and rigid thinking
- Expressing yourself
- Setting boundaries (and respecting others’ boundaries, too!)
- Building resilience and friendships
If you’re struggling to help your highly sensitive child at home, know that you’re not alone. Things don’t have to be this hard. I hope you decide to check out my workbook, and that it brings your family some understanding and peace.
PS – one last piece of exciting news!
